Pcubed Program Leadership

Petroleum Products Company, Global IT Deployment

The Challenge

The Client was looking to better organize 'unstructured' information from its global workforce to facilitate better collaboration, information management, and controls over its digital assets. After completing a comprehensive evaluation of alternatives, a major capital program was launched to design, develop, deploy, and drive the adoption of Microsoft Office SharePoint, Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007, and other Microsoft products to almost a hundred thousand users in over a thousand locations. Given the complexity involved to deploy new software and hardware on such a scale, a strong program management approach was necessary to manage all aspects of the program, from solution design to site deployment, change management, and adoption.

The Pcubed Solution

The Client addressed the challenge by partnering with Pcubed to create a Program Management Framework and to support the build out and operation of a Program Management Office (PMO). Pcubed supported key aspects of the program, from scope decomposition and schedule creation, to schedule and resource optimization across all phases of the program. In addition to serving in a program management advisory role, Pcubed provided the processes, tools and training that enabled stakeholders to make informed decisions by having much clearer visibility and insight into program information.

The Results

Pcubed's efforts enabled the client to design and develop an effective deployment approach. This optimized deployment framework will allow the Client to efficiently deploy to all the global users with minimal business disruption.

Royal Dutch Shell, Global SAP implementation, HR Organization

The Challenge

The program's goal was to deploy SAP HR in 140 countries to centralize processes for employee pay and management. At the time, this was the largest SAP HR deployment ever undertaken. Such large-scale ERP implementation programs are complex and carry substantial levels of risk to the business. The deployment team used the ASAP methodology to address the technical and contentspecific complexity. In order to address the organizational complexity, Royal Dutch Shell also needed to effectively manage all of the business transition activities, in order to better manage the delivery scope and timeline of the program.

The Pcubed Solution

Royal Dutch Shell engaged Pcubed to assess the existing program management framework to manage the deployment. Using its proprietary world-class Program Management Framework as a baseline, Pcubed performed a comprehensive program evaluation and made several key recommendations for improvement. These changes, impacting both the overall program approach and the Program Management Office (PMO) structure, were approved and implemented. Specifically, an improved program status reporting system was implemented, along with supporting processes to more effectively manage schedules, resources, issues, and risks.

The Results

A successful implementation was achieved for SAP HR's largest deployment ever. This success was due in large part to significantly improved visibility of program status for senior stakeholders allowing for timelier and effective program management, while ensuring comprehensive organizational change management. Schedules, resources, risks, and issues were very effectively managed, and team members were provided with the ability to use the project management methodology and tools to drive end user acceptance.
